The national anthem, “O Canada,” is performed by an orchestra and accompanied by images of places, people and animals across the country. English subtitles are included with up-to-date lyrics. This film could be used whenever “O Canada” is required for an opening exercise. Students could study the images chosen to accompany the lyrics, noting the diversity of people and places represented. This could be extended to a discussion about the definition of Canada from various perspectives. Do students agree with the images chosen for the anthem?
