Dans le long métrage d’animation La vie en Rosie scénarisé et réalisé par la cinéaste primée Ann Marie Fleming, il est question d’amour – amour de la famille, de l’histoire, de la culture. Rosie Ming, une jeune poète canadienne, est invitée à se produire dans un festival de poésie à Shiraz, en Iran, mais c’est à Paris qu’elle préférerait aller. Elle habite avec ses grands-parents chinois trop protecteurs et n’a jamais voyagé seule. Une fois en Iran, des poètes et des Persans lui racontent des histoires qui l’obligent à affronter son passé : le père iranien qui l’aurait abandonnée, et la nature de la poésie elle-même. Le film porte sur les ponts que l’on construit afin de rapprocher les cultures et les générations. Il porte sur l’importance de se montrer curieux, de demeurer ouvert. Et de trouver sa propre voie par la magie de la poésie. Des acteurs connus ont prêté leur voix aux personnages du film, notamment Sandra Oh (Rosie, personnage principal du film), Ellen Page (Kelly, la meilleure amie de Rosie), Don McKellar (Dietmar, un jeune poète) Shohreh Aghdashloo (Mehrnaz, professeure à l’Université de Téhéran) et Nancy Kwan (Gloria, la grand-mère trop protectrice de Rosie). Plus de douze animateurs, dont Kevin Langdale, Janet Perlman, Bahram Javaheri et Jody Kramer, ont collaboré avec Ann Marie Fleming.

This short documentary introduces us to Alden Nowlan, winner of Canada’s 1967 Governor General’s Award for poetry. His empathy for ordinary people was evident in his work as a poet, journalist, short-story writer, novelist and playwright. Nowlan’s writing is admired far beyond his native Maritimes, but he never forgot his roots, which he drew on for inspiration. This film, shot just before his death in 1983, records him reminiscing and reading from his work.
In this feature documentary, husband-and-wife team Karsten Heuer and Leanne Allison (Being Caribou), along with their 2-year-old son and dog, retrace the literary footsteps of Canadian writer Farley Mowat. They canoe east from Calgary towards the Prairies (the geography of Farley's Born Naked and Owls in the Family) and then traverse the same paths that Mowat took more than 60 years earlier in Never Cry Wolf and People of the Deer. Their epic 5,000 km journey—trekking, sailing, portaging and paddling—ends in the Maritimes, at Mowat's Nova Scotia summer home.
