In a general class discussion, brainstorm the symbolism of the pink ribbon campaign and its successes and failures in helping breast cancer patients. Have students research the Susan G. Komen Foundation and its mandate. Comment on the Avon Foundation as a public charity. Make a list of the complaints that patients and survivors have with raising money to find a “cure” as opposed to finding the “cause.”
