This short documentary takes a look at the changing face of PEI's agricultural industry. Once famous for its spuds and red mud, this tiny island province now has higher than average cancer and respiratory illness rates. Is there a link to industrialized farming? Rather than dwelling on PEI’s worrisome monocropping practices, Island Green dares to ask: What if PEI went entirely organic?

The stirring words of PEI-born poet Tanya Davis are coupled with beautiful imagery and poignant stories from the island’s small but growing community of organic farmers, reminding us that we can rob the land only so much before it robs us of the nourishment we need for life. Island Green is ultimately a story of hope and healthy promise.

Movie provides Food for thought and thought for food. Thank you for educating me in viewing organic in a whole new manner.

Unless humans as a species are no longer organic then nothing we ingest should be any different. I hope PEI chooses to lead us back to a more human friendly way of eating. Anyone with a different pov should invest in and prepare to embark the ark away from this planet.

The synopsis assumes that the answers to the health questions (“is there a link to industrial farming?”) are “yes”, but without some evidence I will remain skeptical. It is unlikely that we can feed the whole world with “all organic” and it is patently false that organically grown food is more nutritious. It has benefits and is certainly an option for many, but lets stick with facts. Poetry is well, poetry, but farming needs science if we are all to thrive. Correlation does not prove causation. I am concerned about the health of PEI residents, but what does the science (data) tell us?

What a moving take on Mother Earth in our country, Canada. We are so fortunate to have farmers who Do the Work. Best wishes on this journey of love and life. Watching your endeavours and cheering for you. An Alberta Girl.

Congratulations on having this film featured by David Suzuki's team on the Blue Dot Tour (http://bluedot.ca/)! We should be proud and inspired, having such storytellers among us with such vision.

I hope All-Organic-PEI becomes a reality. I would like "Grown in PEI" to become a "brand" that is synonymous with healthy, green and sustainable. Good luck to all of you Islanders from the west coast. Maybe you will inspire BC to do the same.
