Inspiré d'une chanson d'Émile Benoit puisée dans le répertoire traditionnel francophone de Terre-Neuve, Vive la rose de Bruce Alcock est le récit touchant d'une histoire d'amour tragique entre un pêcheur et une belle femme emportée par la maladie. Le film est aussi un hommage au territoire, à la mer et au mode de vie âpre des gens de la côte, ainsi qu'une spectaculaire performance de cinéma d'animation tourné en pleine nature, dans une cabane construite sur les rochers bordant une petite baie.
