In the first edition of ON FILME, Simon Coutu explores the rise of transphobia and the weaponization of transgender identity in political and media discourse. Meeting with members of the trans community and with right-wing organizers who denounce what they call “gender ideology,” he seeks to understand how transgender identity has become such a polarizing issue in Quebec. Through personal accounts, analysis and opposing perspectives, the documentary examines the forces driving polarization, the role of social media and the challenges of engaging in constructive dialogue. Behind the debates, slogans and controversies are people whose lived experiences offer an essential perspective on the issue.
