The Portrait

It’s the opportunity of a lifetime for artist Phil Richards, who’s been commissioned to create Canada’s official portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for her Diamond Jubilee. Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Hubert Davis follows Richards over months of painstaking preparations, as he works to capture Her Majesty’s likeness and spirit on canvas.

“the 1980 footage showing Phil Richards' 1980 work was filmed by Derek May, a fine painter himself, in heaven since 1992. Derek was such an anti-monarchist (and anti-lawyer by the way) that is ironic that his footage goes along EXCLUSIVE images of the Queen of Canada ! LOL ! I am sure nonetheless that Derek is way happy for excellent Phil Richards. (I LOVE the bit where Phil Richards get a free space in exchange of maintenance work ! I love the bit with the royal letter ....and the paint on it. it's so débonnaire. Bravo !” — maxmay, 1 Jan 2013
