Raven is bedridden with chicken pox and develops an overactive imagination by watching too many soap operas on TV. Wapos Bay is a stop-motion animation series that follows the adventures of 3 kids from a Cree community in northern Saskatchewan.
Episode 8 from the Wapos Bay series can be used to facilitate deeper learning, research, projects and discussions related to Indigenous medicinal and healing plant knowledge, harvesting and Protocols. Students can research traditional medicine used by Indigenous Peoples as well as policies and practices that have contributed to a disconnect from traditional Indigenous food wellness practices. What role does television play in influencing children and youth? What are some Protocols for seeking help from Elders and Knowledge Keepers? Students can also consider the role parents and caregivers have in nurturing the youth’s understanding of healthy relationships.
