Questions/Activities:

  • What was unique about Maude Lewis’s artistic style?
    • Test of students’ attention and listening skills as well as a chance to identify what aspect of the artistic style they connect with as an individual.
  • Paint what you see
    • Art project based on the students’ immediate surroundings, with a focus on the shapes and colors created by everyday objects.
  • Group Collage
    • Have the students go outdoors to take notes on what they find in their environment, urban or otherwise. Then, assign roles for the construction of unique pieces or landmarks to create a collage-like painting of the students’ environment. This can be an exploration of different artistic mediums as well as a team-building exercise for the final construction of the piece.
