Everest from Within

This feature-length documentary retraces the journey of 4 Canadians who set off to climb the perilous north side of Mount Everest without the use of oxygen or sherpas. The group's ordeal gives us a rare insight into the human condition under stress, and, while immobilized on the edge of the mountain by extreme weather, we share the tensions that afflict the group's solidarity - threatening the dream of attaining the summit itself.

Notes

This film is a fine opportunity to allow students to think about challenges they may like to take up in the future. The teacher can ask them to do a predictive exercise: what sorts of things would they like to achieve one day? What efforts would they be prepared to make to achieve them? Would they do these things with the goal of finding out a bit more about themselves? Could they be afraid of what they might learn about themselves
