Darryl Nepinak

Darryl Nepinak

An alumna of the Aboriginal Broadcasting Training Initiative, Darryl Nepinak made his first film, Last of the Nepinaks, in 2005. Since then the Salteaux/Cree filmmaker has earned acclaim on the festival circuit for satiric videos that riff on Indigenous representation and experience. With Zwei Indianer Aus Winnipeg, commissioned by imagineNATIVE in 2009, he borrows a German-language sixties novelty song to craft a madcap tale of ersatz “Indians.” NFB credits include My Indian Name (2006) and a series of shorts made for Here at Home (2012), a web documentary on homelessness. A mentor, curator and occasional performer, he is active with the Winnipeg Film Group and has hosted live events at the Plug In Institute for Contemporary Arts.
