Comment élever un enfant quand on a soi-même grandi sans sa mère ? Connue pour la série de spoken word Def Poetry Jam et son solo acclamé MotherStruck!, la poète et militante LGBTQ+ jamaïco-américaine Staceyann Chin entreprend un périple bouleversant à la recherche de la femme qui a disparu de sa vie. De Brooklyn à Kingston en passant par Montréal et Cologne, elle affronte les blessures du passé, traque des vérités insaisissables et adopte, ultimement, la posture radicale du pardon. Avec sa fille à ses côtés, elle redéfinit la notion de chez-soi et le sens même de la maternité. Une mère à part est un puissant témoignage de résilience sur la réconciliation et le courage de briser le cycle de l’abandon.
