The Lumberfros (Trailer)

Watch the film

In Abitibi, hundreds of kilometres from Montreal, thousands of workers go North to work as brush cutters. Far from their families, these 21st-century lumberjacks spend 5 or 6 months a year in logging camps that mirror a new Quebec. Here, workers of French-Canadian descent work alongside neo-Quebecers from Africa, Eastern Europe and Asia. Filmmaker Stéphanie Lanthier invites us to spend an entire season inside this northern micro society, which she documents using a direct cinema technique reminiscent of Pierre Perrault.
