Mosha Michael

Mosha Michael

Mosha Michael was one of Canada’s first Inuit filmmakers. He was director, cinematographer and editor on the 1975 NFB production Natsik Hunting—the first Inuit-directed film produced at the NFB. The film’s infectious country-inflected soundtrack features performances by Michael himself and Inuk musician Etulu Etidloie. Michael went on to direct The Hunters (Asivaqtiin) and Whale Hunting (Qilaluganiatut), both released in 1977. He died in 2009.
