Based in Pangnirtung, Nunavut, Inuk artist Ame Papatsie brings a diverse set of creative gifts to his filmmaking. He’s a skilled craftsman, adept at making beautiful sealskin masks; an accomplished visual artist who’s created murals and illustrated children’s books; and a consummate storyteller, delighting in telling and retelling Inuit legends. His short film Qalupalik, inspired by a traditional children’s story, was made through the Nunavut Animation Lab, a joint initiative between the NFB and Inuit Broadcasting Corporation in association with the Banff Centre, APTN, the National Screen Institute (NSI), Nunavut Film and the Government of Nunavut.
