Alethea Arnaquq-Baril

Harnessing the persuasive power of cinema, Inuk filmmaker Alethea Arnaquq-Baril has crafted award-winning films about Inuit life and culture such as Lumaajuuq and Tunniit: Retracing the Lines of Inuit Tattoos. Her 2016 feature documentary, Angry Inuk, a spirited defence of seal hunting from an Inuk perspective, has generated worldwide interest and debate, winning audience awards at both Hot Docs and the 2017 edition of TIFF’s Canada’s Top 10. “Activist cinema at its best,” says Toronto’s Now magazine. Arnaquq-Baril runs her own production company, Unikkaat Studios, in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
