Since its founding in 1939, the NFB has created over 13,000 productions and won more than 5,000 awards, including 11 Oscars® and an Honorary Oscar® in recognition of its 50th anniversary. With more Academy Award® nominations than any other production company or organization outside Hollywood, the NFB continues to be a pioneer in Canadian cinema. In 2015, the NFB garnered its 73rd Oscar® nomination, for Torill Kove’s animated short film Me and My Moulton. This marks the third Oscar nomination for Kove’s films, after nods for My Grandmother Ironed the King’s Shirts (1999) and The Danish Poet (2006), the latter of which was the NFB’s most recent Oscar® winner, taking home the prize in the Short Film (Animated) category in 2007. Most of our nominated and winning films are available for free in our online Screening Room at NFB.ca.
