This feature-length documentary focuses on the careers of two of the biggest players in French New Wave cinema, Jean-Luc Godard and François Truffaut. Both born in the early 1930s, they were united in their love of movies. When Truffaut emerged triumphant from Cannes with The 400 Blows in 1959, he helped his friend become a director by handing him the screenplay for A bout de souffle. The two friends loyally supported each other until history and politics separated them in the late sixties when Godard plunged into radical filmmaking.. Their friendship, and their break-up, embody the story of French cinema.
