Study Guide - Guide 1

Bring in examples of anti-racist music, poetry or other art and discuss with class. Why do people choose art to convey their message? Ask students to create a piece of art reflecting an anti-hate message (bullying, racism, etc). Discuss the notion of the KKK as a gang. What are the characteristics of gangs? What needs do gangs answer in young people? How can families and the community better serve youth to prevent gang involvement?
