Animated Short Films - Hothouse 7

Watch 6 animated shorts created by Canadian animators as part of the NFB's Hothouse apprenticeship program.

Two things about this most recent Hothouse edition. First, all Hothouse 7 films follow a same theme: "Here Be Dragons”, a metaphor for both the fear and allure of the unknown.

Secondly, the production process was entirely music-driven. In the pre-production phase, animators had to select a music demo (created by one of the 5 composers specially recruited for the task), and then create their animations around the sounds.

The resulting Hothouse 7 shorts showcase a diversity of animation techniques (2D, 3D, puppet and mixed media animation). Animator, composer and sound designer Luigi Allemano was this year's Mentoring Director.
