Short, surprising and always entertaining! Watch a collection of one-minute animated shorts from our Hothouse animation mentorship program, past and present.
In this animated short, a delusional young man spots the girl of his dreams in his favourite café and weaves a self-indulgent fantasy story of their imagined life together. Missed Connection examines our universal desire to connect in a world of beautiful strangers.
Produced as part of the 7th edition of the NFB’s Hothouse apprenticeship.
Ages 15 to 17
Before screening the film, discuss the title: what is meant by a “missed connection”? (The term may refer to misunderstandings in conversation, delays in transportation or a missed opportunity for a relationship.) Certain newspapers and websites devote entire sections to missed connections: discuss why that might be. After viewing the film, ask students to author their own missed connection ad. Create a display online or on a bulletin board and have the class vote for the best one.
