Beaver Family

A short silent film portraying Grey Owl, the famous conservationist, and a family of beavers who would come when he called and take food from his hand without the slightest fear. The film is set in Riding Mountain National Park, Manitoba. The story of Grey Owl's life was the subject of a 1999 feature film starring Pierce Brosnan.

Educational purpose:

Have the students come up with a list of observations about the beavers in their natural environment. What do they do? How do they do it? Ask students what it would be like to talk to animals. Make up stories using this idea.

      “My grandmother was a good friend of Grey Owl. He was from Hastings and my grandmother was from Bexhill which is right next to Hastings. They would go for walks together and he stayed with her for a while. Like Grey Owl, I am also a great beaver lover. Thanks for making the film available. - David”
