Sarah Idlout

Sarah Idlout was one of eight trainee filmmakers from Inukjuak who documented their final year of high school in Inuuvunga: I Am Inuk, I Am Alive, a participatory media initiative undertaken by the NFB in 2004. Mentored by professionals from Montreal’s EyeSteelFilm, the young participants/observers crafted a richly detailed video journal, chronicling everyday activities and addressing a broad range of issues confronting their community, including youth suicide and cultural upheaval. Also on the team: Bobby Echalook, Laura Iqaluk, Willia Ningeok, Caroline Ningiuk, Dora Ohaituk, Linus Kasudluak and Rita-Lucy Ohaituk.
